A new lockdown has been reimposed in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia following a renewed outbreak of the coronavirus in an area surrounding a meat plant.
The lockdown was ordered after over 1,550 employees at a meat plant in the city of Guetersloh tested positive for the coronavirus, CNN reported. The plant has been closed since the beginning of June, But rising morbidity rates led state Prime Minister Armin Laschet to declare a new lockdown until at least June 30.
Under the new rules, only people who live in the same household will be allowed to approach each other in public and indoor leisure activities such as movie theaters are closed. German authorities have reported 192,125 coronavirus cases in the country and over 8,900 deaths.
