Zvi Hauser, the new head of the Knesset’s prestigious Foreign Affairs Committee, told Israel's conservative bi-brow weekly Makor Rishon that he opposes the Palestinian state component of the Trump administration's Middle East peace plan, and that he had communicated this to representatives of the Trump administration.

Hauser told Makor Rishon that “American representatives contacted me, among others, and showed me the (Deal of the Century) plan before it was published.

“I told them that in the reality generated by the Arab Spring, I am doubtful as to whether the Palestinian state notion will bring stability to the area,” Hauser said.

Hauser also said: “Options which perhaps appeared trivial in the past must now be re-evaluated, in view of events in the past few years. When a plan culminates in establishing a Palestinian state -- I think that is an erroneous component which does not correspond to reality”.

Hauser, recently appointed to chair the most prestigious of the Knesset’s statutory committees, is a member of the Derech Eretz party which split off former Chief of Staff Moshe Yaalon’s faction of Benny Gantz’s Blue-White party. He served in the past as Israel's 17th Cabinet Secretary and was simultaneously the Secretary of The Ministers Committee on Security Affairs and the deputy to the Director General of the Office of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet's spokesperson. Hauser, an attorney, has also been active in public affairs and in the private sector for many years.
