An Israeli citizen was hit by a bus and killed and another Israeli was seriously injured on Friday in Casablanca.

Around 3.30 p.m., a group of Israelis attending a celebration to mark the passing of a Rabbi, exited their hotel in Casablanca to board the two buses waiting outside for them, according to a Channel 12 News report.

At one point, one of the bus drivers accelerated and hit two Israelis crossing the road. One was killed at the scene and the other was seriously injured and was evacuated to the hospital.

The Israelis were in Morocco to participate in a celebration held by Rabbi Josiah Pinto in memory of his grandfather. Hundreds of Israelis attended the celebration - Rabbi Pinto's close associates were there as well as senior businessmen from Israel, and former MK Oren Hazan

"People shouted that it was a terror attack," an Israeli told Channel 12 News. "Everyone panicked because it didn't look like an accident."

The two bus drivers were questioned by police. The offending driver said he accidentally pressed the gas pedal in an unfortunate accident, vehemently denying it was an attack.

Local police have not denied the possibility of a deliberate nationalist attack.
