Abbas Zaki, a member of the Fatah Central Committee, on Sunday condemned the US resolution to be voted upon at the UN General Assembly and which will condemn Hamas for launching rockets against Israel.

A vote on the US resolution is expected on Thursday. All 28 EU countries agreed to support the measure after the United States included a mention of relevant UN resolutions in the text that does not, however, refer to "the two-state solution."

In an interview with the Felesteen al-Yawm website, which is affiliated with the Islamic Jihad, Zaki called the American proposal a "clear racist decision".

"If Hamas, which carries out resistance, is defined as a terrorist organization, then all the elements in the Palestinian people are carrying out terror, and this is contrary to reality, because Hamas and the rest of the Palestinians are national liberation movements that are fighting against the Israeli occupation which is carrying out terrorism against our people,” he claimed.

Zaki explained that the defense of Hamas stems from the belief in the commitment to the various elements of the Palestinian people, and from a pure national belief that it cannot be silenced by the American administration's attempt to incriminate the entire Palestinian resistance. "Hamas is a fundamental movement and we will protect it from any unjust decision," he said.

Mousa Abu Marzouk, a member of the Hamas political bureau, praised Fatah's position on the US draft resolution, saying that it was a responsible position reflecting the national interests of a people under occupation.

Last week, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh wrote directly to UN General Assembly president Maria Fernanda Spinosa, in response to the US and Israel's efforts against Hamas in the UN.

In his letter, Haniyeh claimed he is "following up with great anger and condemnation the ongoing and miserable efforts by the United States of America, not only by adopting the Israeli narrative of the conflict, but also by providing all the necessary material and moral support for the Israeli occupation to continue its aggression against our people and deprive them of their basic rights of freedom, independence and self-determination."

He further claimed that Hamas would "greatly count on the members of the UN General Assembly [to] stand by international legitimacy in support for the right of peoples to defend themselves and thwart these aggressive American endeavors."

Haniyeh then stressed the need for "hard work to thwart the American efforts to condemn the resistance" at the UN.

On Saturday, Hamas called on the Palestinian Arab organizations to work together against the US draft resolution.
