The 'In the Footsteps of the Soldiers' program will kick off for the fifteenth straight year tomorrow (Monday).

The program, which is held every year by the IDF preparation unit in the Ministry of Defense, aims to encourage youth to serve in the IDF, by exposing students to the activities of the various IDF forces and tours of combat heritage sites.

To date, some 500,000 youths have applied to participate in the program. Israel has a total population of about 8.5 million people.

Over the next ten days more than 30,000 students from about 350 high schools and educational frameworks from around the country are expected to visit many heritage sites in the Golan Heights.

This year, the project, in cooperation with the Commander of the IDF Ground Forces, which was set up in the Golan Heights, will include presentations of the Armored Corps, where the students will be able to visit, recognize and be impressed by the uniqueness of each and every unit, to ask the soldiers and officers on the ground.

During the day, the students will tour selected battlefield sites throughout the Golan Heights, meet with past and present fighters and watch a special fire show taking place at the end of each day.
