Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon launched a special seminar in New York today aimed at fostering increased business ties between Israeli companies and the UN. Organized by Israel’s Permanent Mission to the UN and the Israeli Export Institute, the procurement seminar focuses on furthering existing cooperation and building new business relationships between the UN and the Israeli private sector.

“Israeli companies offer top-tier technologies, services, and solutions that are in great demand by the UN,” Ambassador Danon noted at the seminar opening. “Whether it’s protection of peacekeepers, humanitarian aid, disaster relief, or infrastructure, development, Israel’s blue and white products provide innovative solutions for the UN’s greatest challenges,” the Ambassador continued.

Christian Saunders, the Assistant Secretary-General for the Office of Central Support-Services in the Department of Management, also addressed the seminar participants. “Over the past few years, we have embraced technologies that allow us to better fulfill our mandates. Technology and innovation have been Israel’s bread and butter from the day of its founding, giving it a big advantage in these areas. We welcome the participation of Israeli companies who have a lot to offer the UN and we are in the process of simplifying and streamlining the bureaucracy to make it easier for companies to do business with the UN,” ASG Saunders said.

During the two-day long event, companies from the security, cyber, information communications technology (ICT), environment water and sanitation industries will have the opportunity to meet with the various UN departments and agencies that spend $17 billion annually on goods and services from the world. Participants will take part in four thematic workshops focusing on specific aspects of procurement procedures for the UN. A special emphasis will be placed on sectors that have been identified by the Israeli Mission to reflect Israel’s commitment to address critical needs of the UN.
