World champion cyclist Tony Martin is excited to be in Jerusalem for the largest cycling competition in the world, the Giro d’Italia 2018.

This year, the Giro d’Italia will be held in Israel, including a stage in which it will weave around the ancient walls of Jerusalem.

Martin, who was the International Cycling Union (UCI) world champion in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2016, told Arutz Sheva that Jerusalem and Israel's warmer weather would make this year's competition more challenging.

Anyone "who likes cycling will like the Giro d’Italia," he said.

"Here it's ten degrees warmer than in Europe, and it will be a big fight against the heat," he added.

"It's my first time here," he said, "and I am really excited to come to this country and to see all the nice sites you should see."

"I guess I will see some parts [of the country] from my bike," Martin said.

Tony Martin is part of "Team Katusha - Alpecin" and is considered a "time trial specialist". Martin is a four-time World champion in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2016, and he won the silver medal at the 2012 summer Olympics in London.
