An Arab terrorist infiltrated the community of Shavei Shomron this morning, throwing grenades and shooting at residents, including kindergarten children. Fortunately, his attacks failed and he was ultimately killed by an armed shopkeeper who chased him down. There were no injuries.

At about 8:30 AM, an Arab infiltrator managed to open fire and throw at least one grenade at the Shavei Shomron kindergarten before setting off on a shooting spree through the town. He opened fire at several residents and homes before David Elbaz, owner of the local mini-market, gave chase and killed him with gunshots. In addition to several grenades and the weapon the terrorist carried on him, security sweeps revealed several explosive devices that he had intended to detonate during the thwarted attack.

Dina Yeshurun, of Shavei Shomron, was targeted by the terrorist as he ran from the kindergarten. She told Arutz-7\'s Kobi Finkler that she heard the explosions and ran outside to see what happened, where the terrorist opened fire at her as he ran towards the homes nearby. She withdrew into her home and alerted her husband. “I was afraid that he [the terrorist] would come inside… because everything was open,” she said, “G-d protects us and, really, thank G-d, thank G-d that it ended that way. But to see him in front of my eyes, running with his gun drawn that is one of the images that I will have to carry with me for a long time.”

The head of the Council of Jewish Communities of Judea, Samaria and Gaza, Bentzi Lieberman, said that the renewed attacks on both sides of the ‘Green Line’ proves that Operation Defensive Shield was halted too early. Lieberman called upon the Prime Minister to take the advice of the IDF Chief of Staff and to take over Area A (under full Palestinian Authority jurisdiction) once again.
