Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Thursday criticized Dublin Mayor Mícheál Mac Donncha, who had earlier this week attended an anti-Israel conference in Ramallah.

"I have one message for the mayor," Netanyahu wrote on Facebook. "You should be ashamed of yourself."

Netanyahu added that he had instructed the ministry to hold a "clarification discussion" with Mac Donncha.

Mac Donncha arrived this week at Ben-Gurion Airport and attended the conference in Ramallah as a guest of the Palestinian Authority, despite an injunction against his entry into the country issued at the request of Interior Minister Aryeh Deri.

It is believed he was permitted to enter Israel due to a misspelling of his name. Deri has ordered an investigation into the matter.

Netanyahu said the Ramallah conference attended by Mac Donncha "featured prominent images" of Haj Amin al-Husseini, leader of a 1936 revolt against the British mandate over Palestine and the grand mufti of Jerusalem.

Earlier on Thursday, Ireland's ambassador to Israel, Alison Kelly, was summoned by the Israeli Foreign Ministry following the Mayor of Dublin's participation in the conference.

The Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed her astonishment and deep disappointment at the fact that Mac Donncha chose to participate in an anti-Israeli event.

The Foreign Ministry said that "this is particularly jarring in view of the timing of the event, especially during the week in which Israel commemorates Remembrance Day of the Holocaust of the Jewish People."

"The Israeli government expects a public and official Irish response to the conduct of the capital city of Ireland in general, and of its mayor in particular, who are conducting a campaign of discrimination and hatred against the State of Israel," the ministry added.
