US President Donald Trump met Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu at the White House on Monday.

At the meeting, Trump said, "Netanyahu and I have been friends for a long time," adding that the relationship between the two countries "has never been better."

"Israel is in a better place now than ever before," he said.

Noting his decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital, Trump added, "I think it's something that's very much appreciated in Israel."

In response to a question from the press, Trump said he "may" travel to Israel for the opening of the US embassy in Jerusalem.

"I may. I may," he said. "We're going to have it built very quickly."

"We're looking at coming," Trump said. "If I can, I will."

Netanyahu also mentioned Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital city.

"This will be remembered by our people through the ages," he said. "Others talked about it. You did it."

The Embassy, currently in Tel Aviv, is scheduled to open in its new home in Jerusalem in May.in time for Israel's 70th Independence Day.
