IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot decided to grant the rank of second lieutenant to Avinoam Cohen, who was killed when a self-propelled howitzer cannon overturned during an IDF training exercise last month.

Then-sergeant Avinoam David Cohen had completed the officers' training course at the Bahad 1 base and was scheduled to leave for the final course of the Artillery Corps in the next cycle. He was promoted to lieutenant following the training accident.

Cohen, 22, a resident of the Sanhedria neighborhood in Jerusalem, served in the 411th Battalion of the Artillery Corps as part of the hesder track and was a student at the Elon Moreh yeshiva.

Platoon Leader Avshalom Armoni, 22, from Beit Horon, was also killed in the accident. Avshalom, who studied at the Otniel Yeshiva, was close to the family of Naama Henkin, who was murdered along with her husband in a shooting attack in 2015.
