At least 149 people were killed on Tuesday in the second powerful earthquake to strike Mexico in as many weeks.

Most of the victims in the 7.1-magnitude earthquake were in the state of Morelos, south of the capital Mexico City.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry said there were no Israeli victims. Mexico, meanwhile, appealed to Israel for assistance following the earthquake.

In response to the request, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu ordered the organization of a rescue and aid mission, and inquired with the relevant professional bodies.

The earthquake caused at least one building to collapse in Mexico City. It comes less than two weeks after a magnitude 8.1 earthquake killed 90 people.

Israel also offered reconstruction aid to Mexico following the first quake.
