Palestinian Arab-American Muslim activist Linda Sarsour is under fire after she misrepresented a Political Action Commitee (PAC) as a fund for Hurricane Harvey relief. Critics accuse her of trying to exploit the hurricane that devastated the region for political aims.

Sarsour had tweeted last week for her followers to "donate to the Harvey Hurricane relief fund". The fund's website stated that "your donation is vital to ensuring that we have the resources we need to organize and fight for Texans devastated by Hurricane Harvey!"

Further investigation unearthed that the fund was a subsidiary of the Texas Organizing Project, a left-wing community organizing group that is supported by the organizations SEIU and MoveOn.org, and whose website stated that they would be "shining a spotlight on inequalities that emerge in the restoration of lives, livelihoods, and homes, amplifying the needs of hard-hit communities, and providing legal assistance for residents wrongfully denied government support."

Critics charged that Sarsour was misdirecting charitable funds for political aims. "This week, Sarsour has also actively discouraged people from donating to the Red Cross, suggesting instead that they contribute to sundry political-activist organizations. Sarsour has already shown her willingness to use disunity to turn a profit. Now we know she’s willing to exploit disaster in the same way." wrote Alexandra Desanctis in the National Review.

Under fire, the Texas Organizing Project posted a statement on their website saying that "we have an ironclad commitment that 100 percent of the money raised into this fund will be spent directly on ensuring low income and people of color are not forgotten in the relief, recovery and reconstruction efforts."

Sarsour has made a long line of inflammatory remarks against Israelis and Zionism. Sarsour has praised convicted PFLP terrorist murderer Rasmea Odeh, when the two addressed a left-wing conference in Chicago in April, saying she was “honored and privileged to be here in this space, and honored to be on this stage with Rasmea.” Odeh was deprived of her US citizenship and deported in mid-August.

Sarsour also recently called for Jihad (Islamic holy war) against the Trump administration. She later claimed that her remarks were taken out of context, writing in the Washington Post that "I sent not a call to violence, but a call to speak truth to power and to commit to the struggle for racial and economic justice."
