An Arab man broke into a house in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem owned by Tzfat Chief Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu early Tuesday morning.

The house is currently undergoing renovations and was not occupied at the time of the break-in.

Members of the Eliyahu family were alerted to the break in Tuesday, and after making their way to the Old City, were shocked to discover that the home invader had changed the lock in the front door, apparently with the intention of squatting on the property for an extended period.

The Eliyahu family filed a complaint with police shortly after they were informed of the break-in.

Authorities say they have identified the suspect, who has a criminal record.
