An eight-year-old girl was killed and at least five people were injured on Monday evening when a driver slammed his car into the sidewalk café of a pizza restaurant east of Paris, French police said.
The driver was arrested soon after the incident in the town of Sept-Sorts, according to The Associated Press.
The driver reportedly told police he wanted to kill himself and had weapons in the car.
However, the incident is not being treated as a terror attack, according to RTL radio.
France has been under a heightened terror alert and has suffered numerous attacks in recent years.
Just last week, at least six French soldiers were injured after a car rammed into them in Paris's Levallois-Perret suburb.
In February, a knife-wielding terrorist attacked French soldiers at the Louvre.
Last July, a terrorist rammed into pedestrians celebrating Bastille Day in Nice, killing 84 people and injuring over 100.
