Jason Greenblatt, U.S. President Donald Trump’s special representative for international negotiations, visited the Western Wall on Thursday.

“A difficult two weeks have brought me to the #kotel again. I pray for lasting peace in this special place and across the region,” he tweeted.

Greenblatt visited the region this week as part of Washington’s efforts to reduce the tensions in and around the Temple Mount.

Earlier on Thursday, he praised Israel's attempts to resolve the crisis.

"The United States welcomes the efforts undertaken to de-escalate tensions in Jerusalem today. We believe that calm and security will create the best opportunity to return to dialogue and the pursuit of peace. President Trump, Jared Kushner, and I, in full coordination with Secretary Rex Tillerson, Ambassador David Friedman, Consul General Don Blome and the State Department, as well as General HR McMaster and the National Security Council, have been and will remain engaged as we continue to monitor the situation closely," Greenblatt said.

Police removed the metal detectors which were set up following a deadly terror attack at the Temple Mount which left two Druze policemen dead. The security cameras on the Temple Mount were also removed following a decision by the Security Cabinet.
