Hundreds of Muslims entered the Temple Mount Thursday afternoon after the police opened the Bab al-Huta gate.

The Mufti of Jerusalem announced Thursday morning that the situation on the Temple Mount has returned to how it was before the placement of the metal detectors, and that it is now permissible for Muslims to pray on the Temple Mount.

The Jordanian Waqf, which administers the Temple Mount, had banned Muslim worshippers from visiting the holy site as long as the metal detectors were in place.

Earlier, Police Commissioner Roni Alsheich arrived at the Western Wall plaza to give a statement on the removal of the security measures from the Temple Mount.

"The Cabinet's decision the day before yesterday was to remove the means placed [at the entrances to the Temple Mount] - all of it, metal detectors, gates, and cameras," Alsheich explained. "Yesterday, the Jerusalem municipality completed the removal of the infrastructure used for both the metal detectors and cameras, because those infrastructures were worthless and served no purpose."
