Former Jerusalem Deputy Mayor MK Rachel Azaria (Kulanu) responded on Friday morning to the terror attack in Jerusalem.

Three terrorists descended from the Temple Mount, and shot at Israeli policemen who they saw near the Old City's Lions Gate. Two of the officers are severely wounded and one is moderately wounded.

"Today's terror attack represents a serious and dangerous escalation," Azaria said. "I send my appreciation to the Israel Police officers and the Border Police officers, who protect us day and night - whether they are stationed at the Mahane Yehuda market and the city's center, or in the Old City, the Western Wall, and the Temple Mount."

"These are the people who allow tourists and worshipers to arrive and leave in peace.

"I trust that the security forces will continue to do their job faithfully, as they have done until now, so that life in Jerusalem can continue as normal. The city has been through difficult periods, and a victory over terror means continuing to visit Jerusalem.

"I wish the victims of the attack a speedy recovery."

Knesset Lobby for Strengthening the Jewish Connection to the Temple Mount Heads MK Shuli Moalem-Refalei (Jewish Home) and MK Yehuda Glick (Likud) said, "The terror attack was carried out with support from the Palestinian Authority and the Islamist Movement for the purpose of undermining the Jewish connection to the Temple Mount."

"We cannot be silent. The Muslim extremists who desecrate the Temple Mount - the Jewish nation's holiest site - with Jewish blood, have no right to be there.

"We call on the security forces to find those who sent these terrorists, punish them, and hurt them with a disproportionately hard hit.

"The Zionist response is to build Jewish homes all over Jerusalem, and to open the Temple Mount to Jews for additional hours each day. We cannot allow terror to achieve even the smallest victory. "We wish a speedy recovery to the victims, and we embrace the Jerusalem District policemen, who protect us with their own bodies."
