MK Oren Hazan (Likud) on Sunday warned Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu against dividing Jerusalem, threatening he would work to topple the government if he advances such an idea.

Speaking at a conference in Eilat of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Hazan referred to the bill proposed by the Jewish Home party, according to which a majority of 80 Knesset members would be required to approve the division of Jerusalem.

Netanyahu used his veto power earlier on Sunday to prevent a vote on the bill from taking place.

"Look at this: Only today they brought a bill that the Jewish Home promotes vigorously, and its essence is: Jerusalem is the capital of the Jewish people. It will stay that way and any change will require the support of at least 80 MKs," Hazan said.

"When the Prime Minister asked to veto, everyone said he did not want to cancel the law because of an argument over credit - but that's not the truth. Guys, wake up,” he continued, noting that his colleague from the Likud, MK Anat Berko, recently introduced a plan that would divide Jerusalem.

"It came up at a faction meeting a few weeks ago and the Prime Minister himself said that there are a number of plans on the table, including Berko's plan, which means that the division of Jerusalem is on the agenda,” insisted Hazan.

"And if we're talking about credit, I understand from this that the Prime Minister is backing a plan for the division of Jerusalem, and I say to him: 'There will be no plan for the division of Jerusalem, and if it comes up, this government will fall,'" Hazan threatened.

Earlier on Sunday, following Netanyahu's veto of the Jerusalem bill, Education Minister Naftali Bennett and Jerusalem Affairs Minister Ze'ev Elkin agreed to work together this week to reach an agreed-upon version of the law and to bring it up for approval in the Ministerial Committee for Legislation next week.
