Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton on Saturday reacted with concern to the FBI’s decision to further investigate her private email server.
Speaking at a campaign event in Daytona Beach and quoted by NBC News, Clinton said FBI Director James Comey’s letter disclosing further investigation of her emails was "unprecedented and ... deeply troubling."
She further called on Comey to quickly release the "full and complete facts" about the new probe of unspecified emails.
On Friday, Comey sent a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee, in which he wrote that while investigating an unrelated case, “the FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation.”
Reacting to the letter during Saturday’s rally, Clinton said, "It's pretty strange to put something like that out with such little information right before an election. In fact, it's not just strange, it's unprecedented and it is deeply troubling."
Despite the FBI review and "no matter what they throw at us in these last days," Clinton pledged not to get "distracted" or "knocked off course."
On Friday, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump welcomed the renewed FBI probe and said he has "great respect" for the FBI's courage to "right the horrible mistake they made."
Clinton on Saturday slammed her opponent's response to the political bombshell.
"Now, of course, Donald Trump is already making up lies about this, and is doing his best to confuse, mislead and discourage the American people," she said, adding, "I think it's time for Donald Trump to stop fear-mongering, stop disgracing himself, stop attacking our democracy. We can't let him get away with this."
