While Hillary Clinton’s sudden departure from the 9/11 memorial service on Sunday after she reportedly suffered a “medical episode” unleashed an avalanche of media coverage – fueled in part by a 19-second video recording of Mrs. Clinton stumbling and being carried to a campaign van – another health-related incident last week went unreported – until it was inadvertently revealed on Monday.
According to the Israeli news site Walla, during an interview last week with Yonit Levy of Israel’s Channel 2, the former Secretary of State was suddenly forced to leave the studio briefly, after she suffered a severe coughing attack.
Prior to the coughing fit, however, Clinton apparently attempted to ward off questions regarding her health, suggesting that she was suffering from seasonal allergies.
“We met with Hillary two days after her coughing fit in Cleveland,” Levy told Sivan Rahav-Meir. “As soon as she sat down [for the interview], we asked her how she’s doing, and she answered, ‘I have these seasonal allergies and I need to get over this hurdle… travelling all the time to different places where there’s always something in bloom – it’s hard on me.’”
“She’s talking about allergies, and this is before the report that she has pneumonia,” Levy added.
“So Hillary Clinton was a little hoarse during the interview; at the end she left for a few minutes to go outside while she was coughing. When she came back in, it was as if nothing had happened. She stayed around for a few minutes of small talk, pictures with the staff, smiled… really, she didn’t look like someone who was suffering something really serious.”
Despite the ongoing questions of Clinton’s health – even before Sunday’s ‘medical episode’ – Channel 2 never reported her coughing attack nor attempt to attribute her cough to “seasonal allergies”.
