The Director General of IAI (Israel Aircraft Industries) Yossi Weiss discussed the Florida blast in which Amos satellite was destroyed and said that a new one with similar capabilities could be built in less than two years.
He maintained that the IAI has the "best infrastructure, the abilities and the equipment required to build a new and advanced satellite within two years." He claimed that the satellite's disintegration should set of a warning light for decision makers.
Weiss stated that the destruction of the satellite would not lead to dismissals in IAI. Regarding compensation for the 'Chalal' company to whom the satellite belonged, Weiss said that the negotiations had not yet begun between the sides but the differences were minor.
According to IAI reports, it has been asked to compensate the Chalal copany, for which it was responsible , with 173 million dollars. IAI says that it was fully insured regarding the launching of the satellite and will be able to provide the necessary compensation.
