Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked (Jewish Home) on Monday morning discussed the phenomenon in which city mayors are working to exclude religiously observant Jews from residing their cities, calling it blatant racism.

"I am fighting discrimination against haredim," said the Justice Minister said in an interview with Kol Chai radio. According to her, deliberately failing to promote haredi housing is unacceptable. "Mayors who not are willing to promote haredi centers are racist," she said.

Last week, Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon (Kulanu) admitted before the Knesset that he is familiar with the phenomenon in question and argued that the reason that his office does not advance solutions for the haredi community is due to the refusal of mayors absorb the haredi population.

However, Kahlon refused to commit to taking practical steps to encourage cities to absorb a haredi population.
