Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, and Cyprus’s Ambassador to the UN Ambassador, Nicholas Emiliou, on Monday volunteered at a shelter in New York as part of International Good Deeds Day.

“Reaching out and helping those less fortunate is deeply ingrained in the value system of the Jewish people,” said Danon, who added, “International Good Deeds Day is a most fitting opportunity to show the true face of Israel as a country committed to making the world a better place.”

The ambassadors volunteered at the Grand Central Neighborhood Social Services shelter.  The shelter serves hundreds of homeless clients on a daily basis and works in close partnership with the Jewish communal organizations throughout New York to provide care and assistance in finding housing.

"Good Deeds Day" is a global initiative set up to encourage people to give of themselves to "choose to volunteer and help others, putting into practice the simple idea that every single person can do something good, be it large or small, to improve the lives of others and positively change the world."

Israel marks Good Deeds Day during the month of March of every year.
