Two people were injured when a light aircraft made an emergency landing in the sea near Tel Aviv.

The incident occurred as the aircraft was coming in to land at Sde Dov airport. The two casualties - aged 57 and 47 - were the only people on board at the time.

They were evacuated to Ichilov Hospital for treatment. Eye witnesses say they were fully conscious.

Two bystanders were also treated at the scene for minor shoulder injuries sustained during attempts to rescue the plane's stranded passengers.

For reasons unknown at this point, the pilot somehow lost control of the plane and was forced to land in the sea.

A distress call was made to Sde Dov airport as the pilot attempted to come in for an emergency landing, but he was unable to regain control and crash-landed in the water.
