Diaspora Affairs and Education Minister Naftali Bennett (Jewish Home) landed on Wednesday in Argentina for a visit to the Jewish community and its local educational institutions.
The minister also gave a speech at the annual memorial for the lethal 1992 attack on the Israeli embassy in Argentina as the representative of the Israeli government.
The Jewish community in Argentina is the largest in Latin America. In his first day in the country Bennett visited Jewish schools in Buenos Aires. He spoke before 2,600 students at the six-year ORT school, telling them, "Israel will always be a home for you."
He then took part in a tenth grade business management class and spoke to the students. When he asked them what comes to mind upon hearing the word Israel, they told him: home, love, homeland.
Later in the day Bennett took part in an event for young Jewish leaders from throughout the continent, and called on them to redouble their efforts against the delegitimization campaign targeting Israel.
He also joined in the opening ceremony of a World Jewish Congress special session. There he met with Argentinian President Mauricio Macri and other ministers and officials, and thanked Macri for his efforts to advance the investigation of the 1994 bombing of the AMIA Jewish community center.
In his speech at the memorial of the 1992 embassy bombing, Bennett said, "there's a direct line connecting the cruel attacks on the embassy and the AMIA building with the shocking attacks plaguing Israel in recent months."
"The hatred is the same burning hate, and the goal is the same goal - agents of death draw on the same sources and are fed by the same axis of evil whose base is in Tehran. Eliminating the terror obligates a daily struggle, and we, in Argentina and in Israel, must obligate ourselves to win this struggle day after day."
