The UK Ministry of Defense says that two Russian bombers are currently nearing British airspace. The Royal Air Force Typhoons have been sent to intercept them.

Authorities say that the bombers were in an "area of interest" over the Atlantic Ocean, though they did not specify further on the location. A country's airspace extends 22 kilometers from its coastline.

There have been a number of cases recently in which Russian jets challenged European countries, as tension between Russia and NATO has grown.

A little over a year ago, Russia sent its bombers over the English Channel, causing nearby civilian aircraft to be redirected. London summoned the Russian ambassador for an explanation, but the reprimand does not seem to have made a strong impression on Moscow.
