Amid the ongoing wave of Arab terror across Israel, envoys of the Middle East Quartet met Wednesday evening with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's chief negotiator Yitzhak Molcho as well as Foreign Ministry officials led by ministry director Dore Gold.

The meeting between the senior officials was held at the Prime Minister's Office in Jerusalem.

"There was a long, serious and businesslike discussion on ways to bring the violence to a halt and bring back security," Israel's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"Both sides acknowledged that continuing the peace process is the real guarantee for achieving peace with security."

Israeli officials made clear during the meeting that Jerusalem was ready to re-engage in peace talks with the Palestinians as soon as it sees a concerted effort to end the terror wave and incitement.

In addition, the officials said, Jerusalem would only enter negotiations if there were no preconditions from the Palestinians.

The Israeli representatives also noted the importance Israel attaches to dialogue with other countries on what is happening in the region.

The quartet groups the United States, Russia, the United Nations and the European Union in an effort to broker an end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
