"Color red" alert sirens sounded in the Sha'ar Hanegev region, near Or Haner and Erez, the Gaza belt region, and in the Hof Ashkelon region Tuesday afternoon, shortly after 2:30 p.m.

The Iron Dome Missile Defense system fired a missile to intercept the apparent rocket fired from Gaza - but shortly afterwards it became clear that the system was activated due to false identification.

Instead of a rocket, bullets were fired by Gazan terrorists into Israel, setting off the anti-missile system.

The Iron Dome missile landed in open ground outside of Sderot, causing no wounds or damage.

The IDF intends to investigate the incident so as to prevent further false identifications.

On Monday night, Palestinian Arab media reported that terrorists in Gaza fired a rocket at Israeli civilians, but missed and struck its own territory, just inside the border fence. No sirens were sounded in the Gaza belt region.
