Khaled Mashaal, the head of Hamas's politburo, said Wednesday in a statement to the press that his organization will demand the release of Fatah arch-terrorist Marwan Barghouti and PFLP head Ahmed Saadat in exchange for the bodies of IDF soldiers First Sergeant Oron Shaul and Lt. Hadar Goldin.
Shaul and Goldin's names came up recently after Israel decided to hand over bodies of dead terrorists to the Palestinian Authority, despite initially saying it would not.
Mashaal said that former Quartet Middle East envoy Tony Blair had suggested to Hamas's heads that they come to London or Geneva to discuss a long-term ceasefire with Israel, but they refused to do so "until all of Gaza's problems are solved."
Regarding the current terror wave, Mashaal said that all Palestinian factions need to establish "common diplomatic goals for the intifada" so that the terror acts on the ground can bear diplomatic fruit.
"In the last intifada, we freed Gaza," he explained. "If we invest all of our efforts in this intifada, we will be able to free Jerusalem and the West Bank."
