Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, begins Sunday at sundown, and on Saturday night the Population and Immigration Authority released a few statistics to summarize the outgoing year.

According to the data, 161,081 were born in Israel 5755, and 40,636 passed away.

The number of Israelis who married this past year is 58,512, the number of Israelis who divorced stands at 20,426 and the number of new immigrants is 28,645.

Among those born in the past year, the most common first names for boys in the Jewish sector are Ori, Eitan, Ariel, Noam, David and Yoseph. Among the Jewish girls, the most common names are Tamar, Noa, Talia, Shira, Yael and Avigayil.
