A new radar system that has been placed along the border with Gaza will give Israelis 7-8 extra seconds to run for cover in case of a mortar attack.

The IDF Southern Command and security firms have completed the intallation of the system and it will go online next month. The system has been successfully tested.

Until now, Gaza Belt residents have had only five seconds to run for cover during mortar attacks, from the momet a “Color Red” siren goes off. With the new system, this time will have increased to 12-13 seconds.

The radar will also decrease the number of cases in which no siren goes off when mortars are launched at Israel from Gaza.

A smart fence is also to be constructed along the border with Gaza.
