Danny Gonenthe 25-year-old who was murdered in Friday’s shooting attack in the Binyamin region's Dolev, was laid to rest late Saturday night at the new cemetery in Lod.

Hundreds of family members and friends attended the funeral, as did rabbis from his yeshiva and many other citizens. The funeral was also attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely; MK Moti Yogev, a resident a of Dolev; and Agriculture Minister Uri Ariel.

Gonen's mother Devorah eulogized her son, weeping bitterly: "You lived your life as a free Jew in his own country. You loved this country and you loved the truth. You raised the banner of truth and that's how you lived."

"You loved the Land of Israel as a supreme value. You also loved those who lived in this country. You loved to travel. And you were murdered on a trip in the land that you loved."

The oldest child of a well-known family in Lod, Gonen studied at the Hesder yeshiva in Ma'ale Adumim. Upon graduating he began his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering at Bar-Ilan University.

Gonen was murdered by a Palestinian terrorist as he and a friend were finishing a hike to Ein Buvin spring near Dolev. The Palestinian was standing at the side of the road and waved them down, apparently asking for help.

As soon as the Israelis' car pulled up he asked them for water, and then shot them at point-blank range and fled the scene. Gonen's friends, who remains unidentified, is being treated at Tel Hashomer Hospital.

Security forces are continuing to search for the terrorist Sunday morning. On Friday, hours after the attack, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and President Reuven Rivlin both vowed to bring the terrorist to justice
