Minister without portfolio Benny Begin (Likud) is a man of the people, according to a viral photo circulating around social media Thursday and Friday, showing him eschewing the ministerial car and other benefits given to him to take the Jerusalem light rail.
Begin has stated on several occasions that he prefers public transportation, according to Walla! News; a fellow commuter snapped this photo as proof.
Begin had finished shopping at the popular Mahane Yehuda outdoor market in the capital like thousands of others before Shabbat, going grocery shopping alone, as a private citizen.
The photo also follows criticism over the expansion of the government to 20 ministers, as well as Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's decision to appoint Ministers without portfolio.
Ministers, unlike MKs, receive a higher salary and a government vehicle for personal use, which detractors argue are a waste of state money.
