Cabinet Meeting

The Government Secretariat informed ministers on Thursday morning that the festive cabinet meeting planned for Jerusalem Day on Sunday has been canceled.

Ministers were not provided with a reason for the cancellation.

However, political analysts have surmised that calling off the cabinet meeting on Sunday could be an indication Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is planning to postpone the swearing in of his fourth government until Monday.

At present, the presentation of the government is still scheduled to take place Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m, but Netanyahu has faced setbacks and threats as he attempts to dole out remaining ministries to his Likud party members.

Outgoing Interior Minister Gilad Erdan met with Netanyahu on Wednesday night but was denied his request for both the Interior and Public Security Ministries.

Erdan refused Netanyahu's offer for the Strategic Affairs Ministry, which was merged with the Intelligence Ministry at the beginning of the last government's term, threatening to bolt from the government if his demands were not met.

The Prime Minister also met Wednesday with MK Miri Regev, who is likely to become a government minister. However, similar to Erdan, their meeting ended without results.

Channel 2 reported that Regev, who was previously slated for the Culture and Sports Ministry, was demanding the welfare portfolio. Netanyahu refused to comply, apparently planning to give it to MK Haim Katz.

Regev, however, responded that the Channel 2 report was false. "I met with the Prime Minister yesterday. The meeting was very good, there was an excellent atmosphere, and sometime this morning we will settle on my role. I believe with God's help, it'll be good news."

Netanyahu has, however, so far made deals with Likud ministers Yisrael Katz, Yuval Steinitz, Moshe Ya'alon, and Ofir Akunis.
