Prime Minister Sharon told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee today that the army would enter more \"refugee camps\" as part of its war against terrorism. In fact, army forces this morning re-entered the ex-refugee camp in Jenin that it left only two days ago. The forces killed senior Fatah military leader Amjad Fahouri, who was responsible for many attacks, and another Fatah terrorist. An Israeli soldier was lightly wounded, and an Israeli tank was bombed, causing no damage.
In Rafiach, as well, the IDF took action and killed three armed Palestinians; the forces left the area this morning after destroying underground tunnels used for smuggling weapons and explosives. The army once again divided the Gaza Strip into three parts by placing blockades along the major north-south highways.
Two Arabs were wounded by a tank shell fired into Ramallah, and soldiers east of Kalkilye detained three Arabs and transferred them to the GSS for questioning. Defense Minister Ben-Eliezer expressed regret for an accidental hit of a civilian car in Ramallah. A tank crew identified a car laden with armed PA para-military policemen, at which it launched shells; instead, a civilian car was hit, in which were killed the wife and three children of Hamas terrorist Abu Kwaik, and two others.
The director of the Red Crescent in Jenin, Halil Suleiman, was killed today while driving what was apparently an ambulance-bomb. The ambulance approached an IDF checkpoint at high speed and under suspicious circumstances. The soldiers signaled it to stop, and when it did not do so, they fired at it; seconds later, it exploded. One soldier was lightly wounded.
