פיגוע דקירה בחברון - תיעוד

A border policeman was wounded Saturday after being stabbed by an Arab terrorist outside the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hevron.

The attacker was shot dead on the spot by other officers.  He was identified as 20-year-old Assad al-Salayma.

His victim was evacuated to Shaarei Tzedek hospital in Jerusalem with stab wounds to his upper body, after receiving emergency first aid at the site, and is in moderate condition.

The incident took place at around 18:15 at the entrance to the Cave. According to eyewitnesses, the terrorist approached a checkpoint, drew a knife and immediately ran towards a group of border policemen, stabbing one of them repeatedly in the head and torso before being neutralized.

A Border Policeman recounted the incident: “In the course of routine activity at the Tzalbanit Checkpoint, next to the Cave of Patriarchs, a Palestinian suddenly showed up and began stabbing one of the warriors in my team. In a split second we understood that this was a terror attack and I understood that we need to take action quickly.

"I fired in order to neutralize the terrorist even as he was leaning over my comrade and stabbing him. The event takes only a few seconds, there is no time to think too much, you have to think precisely and act immediately, that is how they train the warriors at the Border Police. I and the other warriors in the battalion pray for the speedy recovery of our comrade.”

Another terror attack was foiled Friday night, when an Arab youth aged 16 tried to stab a female Border Police officer at the A-Zaim checkpoint in eastern Jerusalem. Policemen at the checkpoint shot and killed dhim. The policewoman was not hurt.
