The Iran-proxy Lebanese-based terrorist organization Hezbollah planned to assassinate former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert six years ago, according to an Arabic report on Wednesday.

The report, revealed by the London-based Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed, indicate Hezbollah planned the assassination as a response to the assassination of Hezbollah field commander Imad Mughniyeh in a 2008 car bombing in Beirut.

Mughniyeh's son Jihad was killed in an airstrike on the Syrian Golan Heights last month, as he and other Hezbollah terrorists, along with an Iranian general, planned attacks on Israel.

According to the report, an Israeli agent named Mohammed Shurba, who infiltrated the Hezbollah lines and was recently arrested, foiled the attempt on Olmert's life.

The sources quoted in the report revealed that Shurba foiled another attempt by Hezbollah to attack the Israeli embassy in Azerbaijan, in 2009.

Al-Jazeera claimed that Shurba provided vital information to Israel for many years regarding Hezbollah's activities abroad. The intelligence obtained from him led to the arrest of several key Hezbollah terrorists in several different countries.
