The Meretz party on Monday evening released the results of its primaries for the 20th Knesset.

MK Ilan Gilon came in first, and will be placed in the number two spot on the Meretz list, after party chairwoman Zehava Galon. He was followed by current Meretz MKs Issawi Frej, Michal Rozin and Tamar Zandberg.

Former Meretz MK Mossi Raz was placed in the sixth spot on the list, followed by Gaby Lasky. Raz only recently paid a condolence visit in Ramallah at the home of convicted terrorist turned Palestinian Authority (PA) minister Ziad Abu Ein, who died of a heart attack during a riot against the IDF.

966 members of the Meretz party Central Committee took part in Monday’s primaries, a 96% participation rate.

Following the announcement of the results, Galon said, "We have a great list, the best in the Knesset. A leftist list that is not ashamed to be leftist. With this list we will have 10 MKs. 10 seats for Meretz is a political settlement; 10 seats for Meretz means eradicating poverty and promoting social housing and affordable housing.”

"10 seats will distance the right from the money and budgets on settlements; 10 seats and we will have civil marriage; 10 seats for Meretz and education toward democracy returns in a big way," she added.

Construction Minister Uri Ariel (Jewish Home) mockingly said after the Meretz results were announced, "I 'praise' Zehava Galon who managed to put together a list that will work tirelessly to continue the delegitimization of Israel in the world alongside the struggle for democracy and human rights for anyone as long as he is not a settler, a religious person or a rightist, and that will undermine all the values of Zionism. There is no doubt that Bishara, Zoabi and company are happy.”
