The Israeli army is to investigate the reported killing of a Palestinian teen during a clash near Ramallah Thursday.

The youth, 13, was killed Thursday by IDF gunfire in the course of an attack on soldiers at Beit Lakia, northwest of Ramallah.

A military source told Arutz Sheva that the confrontation began after an IDF force entered the village, following rock attacks that were carried out in the region.

The force exited the village but a technical malfunction caused the vehicle to stall. The soldiers went out of the vehicle and were then attacked by a mob with rocks and firebombs.

The company commander judged that the soldiers' lives were at risk and opened fire at the attackers. The youth, who was among the attackers, was killed.

Bethlehem-based news agency Maan said Bahaa Samir Badir, 13, was shot in the chest and died later in a Ramallah hospital.

The incident comes amid more Arab violence elsewhere in the country, including in the capital, where rioters threw firebombs at the homes of Jews in the neighborhood of Nof Tzion in Jerusalem Thursday evening.

A car was damaged, as was a wall of one of the buildings in the neighborhood. No one was hurt. Police are combing the area for the perpetrators.

Dozens of Arabs fired fireworks and hurled rocks during the Simchat Torah holiday at Jewish homes in the strategically placed Mount of Olives neighborhood of Maale Hazeitim.

A large police force dispersed the rioters with non-lethal riot dispersal gear. One Border Police officer was injured in the neck. His injuries were described as light to moderate and he required medical attention.
