The United Stated, Israel and Saudi Arabia have jointly created the Islamic State group, an Iranian lawmaker said Sunday, according to PressTV.

“The [IS] terrorist group is the joint product of the U.S., the Zionist regime [of Israel] and Saudi Arabia in the region and there is no doubt about that…,” the spokesman for Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, Seyyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini, was quoted as having said.

Washington’s claim to be fighting the IS is not real and is a lie as the U.S. has never taken serious and practical measures to combat the terrorist group, Hosseini added.

He further stressed that claims about fighting the group are merely political and military gestures made by the U.S. government to respond to the public opinion.

“As long as there was no threat posed to the Americans, they took no measure to fight the terrorist group in the region and even now that they are threatened, they are still doing nothing,” the parliamentarian said, according to PressTV.

Last month, U.S. President Barack Obama authorized the use of airstrikes to prevent the group’s advance in Iraq and to protect American personnel and interests inside the country.

The Iranian lawmaker’s remarks come several days after it was reported that Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had approved cooperation with the U.S. in the fight against Islamic State. Iran's foreign ministry said the report was not correct.

According to the sources, Khamenei gave the orders to General Qassem Soleimani, commander of the elite Quds force that is a special operations unit of the Revolutionary Guards for international missions.

Deputy State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf later clarified that Washington has "no plans" for any military coordination with Iran in the fight against Islamic State.
