A senior member of the Fatah movement warned on Wednesday that Israeli sanctions will lead to the dismantling of the Palestinian Authority (PA).
Speaking to the Ma'an news agency, Fatah central committee member Azzam al-Ahmad said that the PA will not announce its dismantling outright, but stressed that Israeli actions will "lead to its collapse."
The comments came after Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu issued instructions to government ministries forbidding meetings with PA officials, and halting all civilian and economic cooperation with the PA.
The new instructions do not include the Defense Ministry or talks carried out as part of the Israel-PA negotiations.
Netanyahu’s directive was made almost a week after Israel informed the PA of a series of punitive measures against it, following the PA’s request to join 15 international conventions in a direct violation of the conditions of the talks.
"The United States and Israel are jointly responsible for the collapse of the PA and its consequences," al-Ahmad charged.
The PA’s unilateral bid came after Israel delayed the release of the fourth group of terrorists, given the total lack of progress in talks, and the widespread protest to the unpopular move.
The release was officially cancelled last Thursday, after PA Chairman Abbas made the request to join 15 UN agencies.
