Former IDF Chief Rabbi Avichai Ronsky revealed his approach to providing spiritual guidance to soldiers during a meeting Tuesday at the Itamar yeshiva.

“The rabbi needs to be ready all the time with his bulletproof vest and his weapon, just like any combat soldier,” Rabbi Ronsky declared. “The rabbi needs to go out with the unit on marches and drills.”

“That way he will truly be connected to the unit,” he explained.

Twenty-five IDF Rabbis from the Central Command were in Itamar for a special day of study in advance of the Purim holiday.  They heard Torah lectures from rabbis at the yeshiva, and heard from Rabbi Ronsky about his service in the Yom Kippur War and his work as an IDF rabbi.

The rabbis also heard about construction in Itamar, including the building of a new synagogue and Torah study hall in memory of the five members of the Fogel family who were murdered by terrorists three years ago in their home in Itamar.

They saw a video in honor of the victims, Rabbi Ehud Fogel, his wife Ruth, and three of their six children.
