Senator John McCain (R-AZ) slammed US President Barack Obama on Sunday during an interview on CBS. According to McCain, Obama is the most "naive president in history."
McCain, who ran against Obama in the 2008 presidential elections, criticized Obama's "Geneva farce," in reference to negotiations with Syria even as President Bashar Assad's regime has been accused of horrific war crimes. McCain also cited Obama's deal with Iran that has eased sanctions despite Tehran's ongoing threats and nuclear development.
Regarding Russian involvement in the Ukraine, which has been spiraling towards civil war, and Syria, McCain noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his desire to "restore the Russian empire" and undo the fall of the Soviet Union. The senator slammed Obama for ignoring Russian efforts to expand influence.
McCain also touched on another failure of the Obama administration, namely the 2012 attack in Benghazi in which the US ambassador to Libya was murdered along with three other Americans by Al Qaeda terrorists.
Also on Sunday, Obama’s National Security Adviser Susan Rice said she has no regrets about characterizing the attack as a "spontaneous response" to an anti-Islam video. Rice defended her statements, saying "what I said to you that morning, and what I did every day since, was to share the best information that we had at the time."
In response, McCain said he was "speechless" that Rice denied misleading the public about the true nature of the Benghazi attack, calling her comments "a little embarrassing."
In January, McCain similarly criticized Obama, opining "I thought Jimmy Carter was bad, but he pales in comparison to this president in my view." He also attacked US Secretary of State John Kerry's efforts to force through a peace deal in Israel, calling him a "human wrecking ball" last November.
