Eight weapons were stolen from the Border Police base near Modiin, in central Israel, sometime Friday night.
Reports say the weapons were seven M-16 rifles and a handgun.
The thieves entered the base and broke into lockers in the Border Police officers' sleeping quarters, where the weapons had been stored. Police forces were alerted to try and find the thieves.
A special task force has been established to look into the event.
About two months ago, weapons were stolen from a firing range at Kibbutz Ayelet Hashahar in the upper Galilee, although the weapons storage shed was locked and fitted with an alarm. A hunting gun, machine guns, handguns and an assault rifle were stolen.
