Yisrael HaYom reported Friday that the Knesset has produced a solution to their "extra minister" problem: a rotation schedule.
MKs Ofer Shelah (Yesh Atid) and Tzachi Hanegbi (Likud Beytenu) will each bear the position of Chairman the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense, each for a specified period in advance.
After Avigdor Liberman's acquittal and subsequent return to the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs, the post of Chairman of Foreign Affairs and Defense remained unmanned, due to the refusal of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to appoint Shelah to the position.
Liberman reportedly joined Finance Minister Yair Lapid in supporting the appointment of Shelah as a replacement, provoking the wrath of Netanyahu, who wanted to appoint confidant Hanegbi. Hanegbi heavily supports the PM on several issues, including a nuclear Iran.
It also emerged Friday that Liberman will not divide the joint faction of Likud and Yisrael Beytenu, and the merger between the two will continue. It was decided during the intensive discussions held recently in the Yisrael Beytenu party conference held Sunday.
