A Carl Gustav recoilless rifle and ammunition were found hidden in the side of the rear trunk of an Arab car Sunday, by alert guards at the Ariel checkpoint in Samaria.

Something abouth the car and its occupants aroused the guards' suspicion, and they conducted a through search. The weapons had been hidden under the carpeting that covers the trunk from inside.

The suspects were taken to police for interrogation and a police explosives expert was alerted to check the car.

The head of the Passages Authority in the Ministry of Defense, Brig. Gen. (res.) Camille Abu Rukun, praised the guards.

“A quick and professional response by the security guards at the passage prevented the transfer of weapons into the Israeli home front," he said.

On Saturday, security forces prevented a stabbing attack in Samaria.

The Judea and Samaria District Police said that at 5:40 p.m. on Shabbat, the IDF reported that two Arabs approached the Hava 5 checkpoint and were frisked. They were found to be carrying knives.
