Rabbi Yehoshua Neuwirth was a modest man who did not seek recognition for his remarkable knowledge of halakha (Jewish law), Rabbi Moshe Flegg said, speaking to Arutz Sheva.

He became famous anyway, due to his expertise, Rabbi Flegg related. “Everyone has a joke that you can find all over the world Coca Cola, and also the book by Rabbi Neuwirth,” he said.

He was one of the few experts in Jewish law whose opinions were accepted by Jews from across the religious spectrum, Rabbi Flegg noted. “Today there’s a lot of politics, but Rabbi Neuwirth is one of the few who is accepted by everyone,” he said.

Rabbi Flegg also recalled Rabbi Neuwirth's work at Shaarei Tzedek hospital in Jerusalem, and spoke about the loan society (gemach) he established.

Rabbi Neuwirth passed away on Monday night and was buried in Jerusalem on Tuesday.
