Jewish author and Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel has said that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad should be arrested and indicted for intent to commit a crime against humanity.

In a recent interview with the German-based dpa, the 84-year-old Holocaust survivor said that the Iranian leader is serious when he says Israel should be wiped off the map.

“Ahmadinejad has two goals: one goal is to become nuclear and the second goal is to destroy the State of Israel. The fact is he means it,” Wiesel told dpa.

“If he goes to Germany or here to New York he should be arrested and brought to The Hague and indicted and charged with intent to commit a crime against humanity. That would solve the problem. He should be arrested, he deserves it,” he said.

“I learned from history to trust the enemy threats,” noted Wiesel.

For years, Ahmadinejad has verbally attacked Israel and threatened to destroy the Jewish State. In February he claimed that “the period of the Zionists is over” and that “(the Zionists) should give their place to others.”

A week earlier the Iranian president called on all Muslims to mobilize their resources to uproot Zionism.

He made the remarks in his speech to the 26th international conference on Islamic Unity, saying that the prime goal of the Muslims should be terminating the issue of Zionism.

“Under the circumstances that the corrupt, uncultured and murderous Zionists are occupying and killing oppressed people, we should not sit idly by,” Ahmadinejad said.

Several months ago Ahmadinejad labeled Israel “the axis of unity of the world hegemonic powers.”

“It has now been some 400 years that a horrendous Zionist clan has been ruling the major world affairs, and behind the scenes of the major power circles, in political, media, monetary and banking organizations in the world, they have been the decision makers...” the Iranian president claimed.
