Minister of Trade Naftali Bennett has signed an order reducing the price of white bread by 4.17%. His signature kicked off a process to reduce the price following changes in manufacturing costs.

The government controls the prices of some basic food items, including plain white bread. The price of bread has not gone down since 2009.

The change will bring the price of a single loaf of unsliced white bread down from 5.29 shekels to 5.07 shekels. Sliced white bread will cost 6.76 shekels per loaf in place of 7.05 shekels.

Several types of bread, including whole grain bread, are not under government control. Their prices will not be affected by Bennett’s decision.
